Our Membership Pledge
In the wake of ongoing police brutality and the deaths of George Floyd, Tony McDade, and Breonna Taylor, PPMA firmly believes that Black Lives Matter, now and always. We also understand that issues of race are ubiquitous in public health, as seen in higher rates of COVID-19 in African American populations. As pre-health students who will go on to serve the community with the intention of doing no harm, it is necessary for all PPMA members to continually interrogate and challenge the widespread role that institutional racism plays in healthcare.
As a dues-paying member of PPMA, I commit to promoting equality in medicine, to supporting and lifting up more marginalized members of society when I am given the privilege to do so, and to challenging the racial biases in myself and in my peers throughout my career in healthcare.

Our Support of NQTTCN
Racial injustice is a pressing issue with many intersections, including those in the LGBTQ+ community. Furthermore, PPMA recognizes the importance of mental health in addressing health disparities and would like to support organizations that may not have received much attention during these times. In supporting the Black Lives Matter Movement and Pride Month, PPMA will be matching donations to the Mental Health Fund at NQTTCN, an organization that provides financial assistance to queer and trans people of color (QTPoC) to increase access to mental health support. Specifically, they work to provide financial support for QTPoC to work with psychotherapists in an effort to address the economic barriers in healthcare and the mental health system. We will be matching donations in multiple ways:
Currently we have fulfilled our donation limit but are continuing to encourage you to learn and donate on your own! :)
- Donate to the Mental Health Fund at NQTTCN directly, send us the receipt, and we will match your donation.
- Additionally, if you have previously donated to any organizations in support of BLM Movement, send us the receipt, and we will also match that donation to NQTTCN.
Currently we have fulfilled our donation limit but are continuing to encourage you to learn and donate on your own! :)
